Well, if you want to setup multi-factor authentication for Azure user then there are multiple ways to get the verification code/notification as an second step for authentication like phone call, SMS, mobile app notification, mobile app code.
First you might have to take look at “How to enable multi-factor authentication for Azure user – Step by step” to enable multi-factor authentication for Azure user . Once you enable multi-factor authentication user will get prompt to setup authentication method at first time login where you can select phone call, SMS, mobile app notification, mobile app code.
i am going to explain mobile app authentication method which also provide below two options
|Mobile App Notification||A verification request is sent to a user’s smart phone asking them complete the verification by selecting Verify from the mobile app. This will occur if you selected app notification as your primary verification method. If they receive this when they are not signing in, they can choose to report it as fraud.|
|Mobile app verification code||The mobile app, which is running on a user’s smart phone, displays a 6-digit verification code that changes every 30 seconds. The user finds the most recent code and enters it on the sign-in page to complete the verification process. This will occur if you selected a verification code as your primary verification method.|
Lets setup app authentication method instead of wasting time ..:)
Step 1 – Enable multi-factor authentication for Azure user, you might have to take look at “How to enable multi-factor authentication for Azure user – Step by step” to enable the same.
Step 2 – Login to azure portal with the user for which you enabled MFA (multi-factor authentication) -> Azure will prompt user for additional security verification where user can select mobile app – > then select “notification” -> and click on setup button.
Step 4 – open Microsoft authenticator app on your mobile phone which is connected to internet, then click on add an account -> choose “Work or school account” and Scan the image (bar code) generated by Azure at login screen.
Step 5- if you are not able to scan the image then Azure also provide another option to enter “Enter code manually” where you can enter code and url given at the bottom of login page (refer above screenshot)
Step 6 – Once you done with setting up verification method and app and adding account in app, you can login to azure portal using same azure id (which you configured above) and select “mobile app” as verification method and then select “receive notification for verification” – > then click on Contact me button at bottom
Step 6 – You will get notification on your mobile phone if the app is connected to internet or you can enter app code whenever you try to login using the same Azure id
