Powershell to enable Azure multi-factor authentication for bulk user

Azure How To Microsoft

How to  enable Azure multi-factor authentication for bulk user using powershell?

MFA helps secure user sign-ins for cloud services beyond just a single password. With MFA for Office 365, users are required to acknowledge a phone call, text message, or app notification on their smart phones after correctly entering their passwords. They can sign in only after this second authentication factor has been satisfied.

A form of multi-factor authentication is included with Office 365 and azure login and also you can use it for azure web services.

Before you atart or download powershell script from Microsoft gallery i recommend you to refer – set up multi-factor authentication for Azure user and “How to setup Azure Authentication app for Azure multi-factor” guide.

You can download the powershell script from  – https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Powershell-to-enable-Azure-086185a6

How to start ;-

1> start powershell ISE / console in administrator mode

2> set execution policy to unrestricted by using Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted –Scope CurrentUser

3> PARAMETER

All – set MFA for all user in azure ad
Synchronized – set MFA for Synchronized users (Synchronized from on premises)
specific – set MFA for specific users. if you select this option then you will get prompt to enter username.

Synchronized – set MFA for Synchronized users. if you select this option then you will get prompt to enter txt file full path

NewState can accept following values based on the MFA state of the users:

Disabled –This is the default state for a new user not enrolled in multi-factor authentication.

Enabled –The user has been enrolled in multi-factor authentication, but has not completed the registration process. They will be prompted to complete the process the next time they sign in.

Enforced –The user may or may not have completed registration. If they have completed the registration process then they are using multi-factor authentication. Otherwise, the user will be prompted to completer the process at next sign-in

Thats it.. you are good to execute the script..
